ALLISON MICHELLE STREATER

artist  |  designer  |  educator

Allison Michelle Streater is a visual artist, educator and designer born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. She is proficient in mixed media, installation, and digital design, executing her work with care and thoughtfulness. She has exhibited work locally and nationally with her most notable solo shows at the Winchester Cultural Center in Las Vegas, NV and at Lookout Arts Quarry in Bellingham, WA where she completed a four week residency. She has exhibited in group shows locally and nationally at CORE Contemporary, Priscilla Fowler Gallery, Eden Art Studio and Gallery, Life is Beautiful, Contemporary Art Center, Emergency Arts Factory, Alios Gallery, Sahara West Library Gallery, 7th street Gallery, University of Nevada Las Vegas, College of Southern Nevada, Ortego Gallery, U.S. Capitol Building.

Streater’s life and art are shaped by her resilience in the face of adversity. In 2005, during her first semester of college, she survived a life-threatening car wreck that ruptured her aorta, fractured her pelvis in five places, and left her with a paralyzed vocal cord.  Art was a vital avenue in processing her experience and the consequences it had on her mental health. She pursued a degree in art at University of Nevada Las Vegas and graduated with a BA in Painting and Drawing in 2011 and continued to exhibit in shows throughout the valley.

Streater worked in administrative roles until finding a creative position at an events company working as a Graphic Designer and Print Manager. This experience gave her an opportunity to apply for a teaching license through a Career and Technical Education program. For seven years she developed scaffolded lessons teaching high school students the fundamentals of Graphic Design. She advocated for access to technology that would give her students an opportunity to bring their digital designs to print using button presses, dye sublimation processes, large scale printer, laminator, x-acto blades and bone folders to create a variety of design materials. During these years she sought relief through art while having her thyroid removed from cancer in 2018.

For six of her teaching years she maintained a loving long distanced relationship that inevitably inspired a move to Pittsburgh, PA in 2023.  In an effort to shift careers she applied for and was accepted into graduate school at Seton Hill in Greensburg, PA to pursue an CAAHEP-accredited Art Therapy - Specialization in Counseling (M.A.). After completing two semesters, she withdrew from the program to shift her career focus again towards education.

Allison is currently establishing Physio Craft Studio, offering workshops in various media, including printmaking, sculpting, painting, and mixed media as well as providing graphic design consulting and education for artists, tinkerers, and educators.
